Recto: main text in Hebrew on the dates of the New Moon, mentioning the year 4827 which is the Seleucid year 1378 (= 1066-1067 CE). The second text written vertically in Judaeo-Arabic and Hebrew is on dates of the New Moon. The third text is written in Arabic with Hebrew words presumably on the Year of Remittance, mentioning Friday Elul 29 and the fourth <em>šemiṭa</em> (Elul 29 is the day of remittance of debts). Verso: first line in Arabic script, with the main text in Hebrew on calendrical matters (different hand to recto). The second text in Hebrew (the same script as recto) is calendrical. The third text (written vertically in Judaeo-Arabic) calculates dates.

Fragments from the Cairo Genizah are datable from the 6th c. CE to the end of the 19th c. CE, with the majority coming from two distinct periods: the late 10th to mid-13th centuries and the 16th c. Most of the manuscripts were recovered from the storeroom (genizah) of the Ben Ezra Synagogue in Fustat, Egypt, in 1896–1897 by Dr Solomon Schechter of Cambridge University; others were unearthed in his excavations at the Bassatine Cemetery or bought from booksellers

Access to the manuscripts themselves is through Cambridge University Library's Manuscripts Reading Room. The MSS Reading Room is open to all those with a Library reader's ticket, though all readers wishing to view manuscript material must have a reader’s ticket which allows access to such material. If in doubt, current members of the University should contact the Admissions Office. Undergraduates are not normally allowed to consult manuscripts without special permission. This must be sought on their behalf by their Tutor, Supervisor or Director of Studies, writing in advance to the Keeper of Manuscripts and University Archives. Staff and students of other universities and private/business researchers will need to obtain a reader’s ticket from the Admissions Office. To obtain the necessary reader’s card you will require university or personal photographic ID, current proof of home address and a letter of introduction.
